Western Corridor and Grumeti Reserves

The arm of the ecosystem running roughly 100 km west from central Serengeti toward Lake Victoria, following the Grumeti River, together with the adjoining Grumeti and Ikorongo Game Reserves, which cover about 3,000 km² and were established in 1994. The herds pass through it between roughly May and July on the way north, crossing the Grumeti River in the process. It matters to this Journey because it shows that river crossings are a repeated feature of the circuit rather than a single Mara event, and because it is a place where the migratory route runs through reserves that permit uses the national park does not.
