Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheatre), Rome

The largest amphitheatre of the Roman world, begun under Vespasian in AD 72 and opened by Titus in AD 80 with a hundred days of games. Estimates of its seating capacity vary widely across sources, from roughly 50,000 to 80,000. It stands in the Historic Centre of Rome, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980. It could not have appeared on the Hellenistic list of wonders because it did not yet exist when that list was being written.
