Machu Picchu
node · earth
An Inca settlement on a ridge above the Urubamba valley, generally attributed to the reign of Pachacuti and dated to roughly 1450–1470, though a 2021 radiocarbon study argued for occupation from about 1420 to 1530. It was brought to international attention by Hiram Bingham's 1911 expedition, though local farmers were living on the site when he arrived. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983 and elected a New7Wonder in 2007.
