Titanic wreck site

The wreck lies on the abyssal plain roughly 370 nautical miles south-southeast of Newfoundland, in international waters, at about 3,800 m depth. The hull is in two major sections: the bow, which planed away from the surface and drove into the sediment, and the stern, about 600 m south, torn apart by the descent. Between and around them is a debris field of coal, machinery, fittings and personal effects. The site is around 13 nautical miles from the distress position Titanic transmitted, which is why decades of searching along that position failed.
