Phylogeography puts the Indo-European homeland in Anatolia

Bouckaert and colleagues extended the Bayesian approach by modelling the geographic spread of the family as a diffusion process on the tree, and reported strongest support for an origin in Anatolia with expansion associated with agriculture. The paper drew sustained criticism from comparative linguists and archaeologists over its cognate data, its treatment of extinct languages, the geographic model's indifference to terrain and migration corridors, and the omission of the reconstructed wheeled-vehicle vocabulary that constrains the proto-language's date.

Historical — it happened, and the record is settled.
