Addis Ababa is the diplomatic capital of Africa — headquarters of the African Union, UNECA, and 100+ international organisations — and the operational hub of Ethiopian Airlines, which operates the largest network in Africa: 131 destinations across 59 countries on a fleet of 130+ aircraft. The airline's Bole hub functions as the primary transit point for sub-Saharan Africa's aviation system, carrying more intra-African passengers than any other carrier. Ethiopia's economy grew at an average of 9.6% per year for a decade before the 2020 Tigray conflict interrupted the trajectory; the subsequent stabilisation and IMF reform programme have re-engaged institutional investors.
