The Montreux Jazz Festival was founded in 1967 on the shores of Lake Geneva. Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Carlos Santana, David Bowie have all performed here. The main stages hold fifteen thousand; smaller tents run simultaneously. The famous Claude Nobs archive — thousands of concert recordings — is now UNESCO-listed. Jazz in name, but everything worth hearing has played Montreux.
