Amboseli–Tsavo–Kilimanjaro dispersal corridor

The set of routes across Kajiado and Taita-Taveta group-ranch and farmland linking Amboseli's swamps, the Kilimanjaro forest zone and the Tsavo ecosystem. Amboseli's elephants spend a large share of the year outside the 392 km2 park, so the corridor rather than the park is the functional conservation unit. The corridor's constriction is the clearest local illustration of the Journey's central geographic argument: dispersal routes follow water, water is where cultivation is viable, and subdivision of group ranches into individual parcels converts a permeable rangeland into a mosaic of fenced smallholdings.
