Great Elephant Census reports 352,271 savanna elephants and a 30% decline

The Great Elephant Census, a standardised aerial survey across 18 countries published in PeerJ and announced at the IUCN World Conservation Congress, counted 352,271 savanna elephants and estimated a roughly 30% decline between 2007 and 2014 across the 15 countries with comparable prior data, with an ongoing decline reported at about 8% per year. The survey claimed coverage of over 90% of savanna elephants in the surveyed states.
