Serengeti National Park

node · earth

A Tanzanian national park of roughly 14,763 km², gazetted as a national park in 1951 and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1981 for the migration and for its intact savanna predator–prey system. It holds most of the migratory circuit — the southern short-grass plains, the western Grumeti corridor and the northern Mara River reach — and is the base of the Serengeti Biodiversity Programme's sixty-year monitoring record. For visitors it is also the anchor of Tanzania's northern safari circuit, with resident lion, elephant, buffalo and cheetah populations that are present year-round independently of the migration.
