DSV Limiting Factor (Triton 36000/2)
node · earth
A two-person titanium-sphere submersible built by Triton Submarines for the Five Deeps Expedition, designed and certified for repeated rather than one-off full-ocean-depth dives - the design change that turned the deepest point on Earth from a stunt destination into a workable research site. It carried out four dives to the Challenger Deep between 28 April and 5 May 2019 and one to the Sirena Deep on 7 May 2019, and returned in June 2020 for the transects that underpin the revised depth estimate. Not a place.
A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
