Gion Matsuri
Yasaka Shrine, Kyoto, Japan
Legendary · held by 418 collectors
Gion Matsuri in Kyoto is one of Japan's three great festivals, running the entire month of July. The centrepiece is the Yamaboko Junkō procession on July 17 — thirty-three floats (yama and hoko) drawn through the old streets of Gion by men in period costume. Some floats carry priceless tapestries imported from Belgium in the sixteenth century. The oldest documented matsuri in Japan.
