The Andong Mask Dance Festival in North Gyeongsang Province is South Korea's premier intangible cultural heritage festival. Hahoe masks — UNESCO-listed since 2010 — are worn in satirical dances that traditionally mocked the Joseon ruling class. The festival runs for nine days each October in the village of Hahoe, where the mask dance tradition originated eight hundred years ago.
