Mazu Pilgrimage
Beigang Chaotian Temple, Taiwan
Rare · held by 425 collectors
The Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage is one of the three largest religious events in the world — over a million pilgrims follow the palanquin of Mazu, goddess of the sea, on a nine-day, 330-kilometre circuit through central Taiwan. Firecrackers explode continuously; devotees crawl under the palanquin to receive blessing. A religious procession that operates like a slow-moving city.
