The Committee declines, again, to place Venice on the danger list

Ahead of the 45th session in Riyadh (10–25 September 2023), UNESCO and the advisory bodies recommended inscribing Venice and its Lagoon on the List of World Heritage in Danger, finding no significant progress on mass tourism, development projects or climate impacts. The Committee decided against the recommendation of the Convention's own technical bodies, crediting measures adopted by Italian national and local authorities. It had done the same in 2021 after Italy banned large cruise ships from the historic centre.
