The first crewed lunar landing. Launched 16 July 1969 at 13:32 UTC from Launch Complex 39A with Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin. The Lunar Module Eagle separated from Columbia and landed on the southwestern Mare Tranquillitatis on 20 July at 20:17 UTC, Armstrong taking manual control through a series of 1201 and 1202 guidance-computer alarms to fly past a boulder-strewn crater. Armstrong stepped onto the surface on 21 July at 02:56 UTC, followed by Aldrin. The single moonwalk lasted about two and a half hours; they deployed a solar-wind collector, a seismometer and a laser retroreflector, and returned roughly 21.5 kg of samples. Splashdown in the Pacific 24 July 1969.
